Hipcamp Is Not Only for Hipsters

Greetings! Gourmet Girl Gail here with another bucket list adventure item for 2018. I joined Hipcamp several years ago but haven’t taken the opportunity to check out any of their campsites, yurts, or cabins. The mission of Hipcamp is to get more people outside. They’ve got over 285,000 U.S. locations, including campsites, ranches, vineyards, farms, and public parks, to explore.

The founder and CEO of Hipcamp, Alyssa Ravasio, has an interesting story tell, and it all started in Andrew Molera Park in Big Sur, one of the Gourmet Girls favorite stomping grounds. As she says, “It all started with a wave.”

I will start exploring Hipcamp locally, with a couple of places I’ve had my eye on for a while. My favorite is a Permaculture and Moringa farm on the beach just North of Santa Barbara. Guests get to set up camp in a historic, glass greenhouse with awesome ocean views. Inside is a cob pizza oven that works great! How cool is that. Check out these photos taken by Lisse Lunden.

A little further up the coast near Morro Bay and not too far from Paso Robles (another fabulous Central Coast destination) is this sweet Creekside Casita. I wouldn’t even need to pitch a tent here! What a great vibe they have there.  Thank you Vanessa Lamb for these lovely photos. You can check out more photos here.

Looking for something a little more remote? Try Songdog West Campsites and Songdog Glampout in the Cuyama Badlands of California.  The featured starry night photo by Ezekiel Gonzales has me hooked! And I hear Jim, the ranch owner, is a great host. Well, hopefully he didn’t put this poor guy to sleep! LOL.

The message here is to forge new experiences in the great outdoors. I hope you and your loved ones will take time to do just that! Perhaps Hipcamp and their mission will become your mission. Personally, I’m looking forward to exploring the many opportunities that abound.

Do you have a Hipcamp experience you’d like to share, or thoughts on what they are all about?  If so, please take a moment and follow this link! We would so love to hear from you!

Cheers,

Gail, Denise and Lindsey

  1. Gourmet Girls on Fire rocks with their inspiring newsletters and articles! Like many people, I quickly sift through newsletters, but this morning, while sipping an Espresso, I treated myself to Gail’s article. Her captivating storytelling and images kept me reading every word! We’re not campers in our house, but this story inspired me to not only give it a whirl one day but to visit Hipcamp! What an extraordinary place of rustic beauty and charm! I thoroughly enjoy reading about Gail and her campground escapades! You can bet at my first camping trip there’ll be a blazing campfire and a sparkling beverage to toast Gail and the Gourment Girls on Fire! Cheers!
