Monsieur Marcel . . . an L.A. Treasure!

Hello!

Gourmet Girl Gail here. We were privileged to hold an event recently at Monsieur Marcel in Los Angeles’s oldest farmer’s market. Seriously, this was a major event for the Gourmet Girls. For me, it was like being a kid in a candy store. Take a look at this video and you’ll see what I’m talking about. http://www.farmersmarketla.com/merchant/merchantDetails/36

It’s what we call a well-stocked market!

I was joined by our partner, Lindsey Moran, who did the design and layout of The Gourmet Girls Go Camping Cookbook and wrote most of the text. Big kudos to Lindsey for showing up despite her busy schedule as an art director on movies and TV series.

For the event we featured Scallop Ceviche with Avocado, a recipe in our cookbook. Instead of sea scallops we used bay scallops, which by the number of compliments we got worked really well.  Here’s one happy camper who stopped by for a taste!

The secret to prepping this lovely recipe is to finely dice red, yellow, and orange peppers along with a couple of jalapenos. Store in a baggie until ready to use. Thinly slice a small bunch of cilantro and a handful of chives and put those in a baggie. Add lime juice to the scallops for about an hour to “cook” them. Just before putting the whole dish together, cut up avocado into small pieces. Add peppers, cilantro, chives and a tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil to the scallops. Salt and pepper to taste and top with avocado. What a yummy summer delight!

We had a good time playing peek-a-boo with this camera-shy visitor, who is clearly the youngest reader we’ve ever had at a book signing.-:)

Nevertheless, if you ever find yourself near Third and Fairfax in Los Angeles, be sure to stop in at the The Original Farmers Market where you’ll find a range of trendy shops, restaurants and, of course, Monsieur Marcel. Did I mention it’s a great place to people watch? Fantastique!

Until next time!

Cheers,
Gail, Lindsey and Denise
