Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head!

Hello friends!

Gourmet Girl Denise here from Le Petit Saint Barnabé, Pays de Loire, France. Well, the rains have begun and the days are getting shorter, but my garden just won’t quit. My hollyhocks re-sprouted and my ‘Rhapsody in Blue’ climbing rose at the kitchen door are still blooming.

I am still harvesting tomatoes and my chickens are still laying four eggs a day. I am giving a dozen eggs away every week and still have three dozen in the pantry. Good thing I like quiche.

It was a dry, hot summer, so I think the plants around here are confused into thinking it’s spring. Soon enough though, they, and I, will get a rude awakening when the temperature drops to zero. Brrrrr! Time to break out the Uggs and sweaters!

The Saturday market in nearby Saumur is fantastic! This past Saturday I took a few images of one of the city chateaux as well as pics of the market. Here they are:

This beauty is currently being restored. Stunning architecture, n’est çe pas?

This is the best bakery in Saumur! The line was long to get in, but that’s how you know that the food is going to be good.

I hope this bit of news from France finds you all happy and healthy and cooking! If you need some inspiration, open up the Gourmet Girls Go Camping Cookbook and find a recipe you haven’t tried before. And keep on traveling and expanding your view of the world. That is what will one day bring peace to world.

Cheers!

Denise, Gail, and Lindsey
