Sisters on the Fly (SOTF)

Hello All and Welcome to Summer!

Gourmet Girl Gail here. Did you fire up your grills over Memorial Day weekend, demonstrating your grillmeister skills for family and friends? If you did but felt a little rusty, be sure to review our post a while back on grilling tips.

In the meantime, I joined a great group of campers a month or so ago. They call themselves the Sisters on the Fly. Since its start up in 1999, more than 8,600 women have joined the SOTF ranks. I’m number 8,516. Members host a wide variety of events and gatherings, but the main idea is to support women in their journey to get up, get out, and become more adventurous! This year they’re exploring the Lewis & Clark trail, which is one of their long caravan trips.

I met up with SOTF for my first event in the Yosemite/Bass Lake area a couple of weeks ago. And I was one of four tent campers among the 35 women there.

The rest of the gals have adorable vintage trailers. Some have larger rigs. One of the highlights of the event was Friday night’s Trailer Crawl, where we all got to go inside these gems. Each owner hosted a mini dessert or beverage. What a delightful evening it was!

Decorations make each trailer unique and have a special meaning for the owner. The hedgehog on Becky’s teardrop was done by her husband who is an illustrator. This was Becky’s first event with SOTF, too, and the first time pulling her restored 1949 (I think) teardrop.

Another outing took us to Bass Lake for some boating and Kayaking. Beforehand we had a wonderful lunch at Miller’s Landing Resort on the lake. I highly recommend it if you’re ever in the area!

I’ve never met such a diverse group of women who love life and a bit of adventure and are true to the spirit of kindness and camaraderie. (Well, the Gourmet Girls are like this also!) In any event, I’m looking forward to future get-togethers with SOTF! So stay tuned.

What fun adventures do you have planned for the summer? Let us know by emailing gourmetgirlsonfire@gmail.com and we’ll include it in a future post.

Cheers from the Gourmet Girls on Fire!
Gail, Denise and Lindsey
