The Wonders of Cooking with the Wonderbag!

Wonderbag - red

Hello Intrepid Campers!

What fall outdoor adventures are you up to? We hope they are plentiful and rejuvenating! Here’s a cooking idea for your next outing. Imagine a way to slow cook your food while camping. You can prep everything after lunch and head to the trails. When you get back, presto! Getting dinner on has never been so easy. Or you can put it in the back of your car with no power, and have your meal already good to go when you arrive at your campsite. This is the Wonderbag way. Created by Sarah Collins who grew up in Africa, she remembered her grandmother’s technique of taking pots off the stove and wrapping them in furniture cushions and blankets to keep the food cooking. How cool is that! The Wonderbag is a modern version of this age-old method.

The Gourmet Girls Go Camping Cookbook has several delicious recipes using the Wonderbag. There’s tender roast chicken (yum!) and South African Beef Curry (so delicious!). How did we discover the Wonderbag? Our own Gourmet Girl, Wendy Overend, who grew up in South Africa, turned us onto it while camping in Big Sur one time. We’re forever grateful to her for showing us this unique way of cooking.

Just imagine the time and fuel is saves as well as the stress of getting a meal on the picnic table when there are so many other fun things to do. Best of all, for every bag purchased in the developing world, one is donated to a family in need!

Bon Appetit!
